At Poehling Capital Management, we believe in owning quality companies, run by shareholder-friendly management teams, that can be acquired at discounted prices to our estimates of their true values. We do not view stocks as pieces of paper which can be traded in and out of frequently. Rather, we view stock investments as ownership interests in legitimate businesses. Having a business owner mentality allows us to remove the emotion caused by the daily gyrations in the marketplace. Without the emotion, a more rational investing approach is taken as we patiently await the market to recognize the true values of our investments. Our approach to investing involves the following:

Finding companies that possess a sustainable, competitive advantage which are run by competent, shareholder-friendly management teams.

Purchasing these market-leading companies at discounted prices, based on our estimations of the companies true fair market values.

Opting for non-equity, market based investments when no opportunities present themselves in the equity market.

Engaging in special investment situations associated with corporate spinoffs, reorganizations/restructurings, and merger activities.
